If you’ve bought an air fryer and you are stuck for inspiration for what to cook in it, then this post and accompanying video might be a good place to start!
Air fryers are very versatile kitchen appliances, they may have been invented to provide a healthier way of getting a crispy finish on your food, but people soon discovered they could be used for cooking everything from poached eggs to puddings. I decided to put together a video logging everything I cooked in my Cosori Dual Basket for a week and you can see the result below along with links to recipes. I hope it inspires you to get cooking!

📍 So you’ve bought an air fryer, but where do you begin? What do normal people cook in them on an everyday basis? I decided to make this video as an insight into how we as a family of four use our air fryer over a normal week. I picked a week during the school holidays when all four of us were around for most of the time.
Now this isn’t supposed to be an example of the best, most nutritionally balanced or fanciest menu. But it is real life and therefore I hope it provides you with a little bit of inspiration if you’re wondering how and what you can cook in your airfryer. If you’re curious, in the description below I will add links to all the recipes and any accessories or products which I use in the video.
But I’m bound to forget something, so if there is something I’ve forgotten, you’ve got a question, let me know. Please do drop it in the comments below and I’ll do my best to answer it. So we start our culinary journey through our week with a pudding. So this is one of our most cooked puddings. It’s chocolate pear pudding and it has mostly store covered ingredients.
You combine butter and sugar, then add eggs, flour, and cocoa. Put the batter in a dish and top it with chunks of chocolate. I like really good quality chocolate, like lint and tinned pear. And the end result is a lovely squidgy chocolate pudding, which goes really well with cream or ice cream. Or I have to say this, I actually really like evaporated milk, not the condensed stuff.
Evaporated is really good. I did half quantities on this occasion and that’s about right for four people for one night. Now on Thursday, chocolate did make an appearance again. This is not how it always turns out. It’s just our two chocolate dishes this week were back to back. So bear with me. I have a teenage boy, well, nearly teenage boy.
He’s eating lots and only getting taller and not wider. So afternoon baking is is a thing at the moment in the school holidays to kind of bridge that gap between the main meals. This cake is a family recipe. I’ve been cooking it for as long as I can remember. And the secret to its deliciousness is a kind of cheats version of ganache.
icing using evaporated milk, which I’ve mentioned twice now in the last three minutes. It is really good though, makes a really gooey topping. I make the sponges in these two six inch tins from Lakeland. I actually bought them years ago and sadly Lakeland does still make them, but they’re actually a different size and therefore slightly too big for air fryers.
But I’ve dropped a link for an equivalent. tin in the description, which will fit most dual drawer air fryers. These take about 25 minutes to cook on air fry at 180 degrees. I don’t bother to preheat. I did a video about that recently as to why I don’t. I just stick them in. When they’re done, I whip them out and stick them on the cooling rack and then make that icing.
I usually add some sweets on the top for the kind of garnish and to help with the appearance on this occasion. We had a few leftover mini eggs from Easter, which I managed to salvage to decorate with. If I’m lucky, I’ll get two days out of this cake. But honestly, when everyone’s home, it disappears really quickly, like 24 hours usually.
Now, I’m training at the moment for an ultra and I’ve had a pretty busy day doing that, so I took my cake and retreated with a cup of tea to the bath, which, if I’m totally honest, is one of my favourite places to get some peace and quiet. Few hours later it was time for supper. The plan was ham, egg and little roast potatoes.
We parboiled the potatoes for 10 minutes and then put them in a bowl with some olive oil, salt, pepper, Cajun seasoning, onion granules and garlic granules and put them all in the air fryer on roast at 200 Celsius. Now I mentioned preheating again because I’ve talked about it before. I don’t bother unless it’s a very special occasion.
And you’ll see my husband’s did on this occasion. We fried the eggs in a frying pan on the hob. They are Barford brown eggs, which are delicious and have an amazing flavour. orange yolk. We describe them as our eating eggs in this house, i. e. they’re kind of the main event, and we buy not quite so expensive ones for cooking in with a mixture.
Potatoes were done, and it was time to serve up. Now, if this serving looks a little mean, you aren’t wrong. There was supposed to be More ham on everyone’s plate. But this being the school holidays, a lot of it had already been eaten when my back was turned. So, we finished the meal, still hungry, and my son and I decided to head back into the kitchen to make a last minute cheats version of bread and butter pudding in the air fryer.
Which is basically just a kind of quick custard mix using eggs, sugar and milk, and then sliced bread, torn up and just thrown in the dish with it. We did two dishes of it and I decided to add raisins to one, which in hindsight, and yeah, my son did so at the time, I should have mixed in because they were sitting on top of the pudding and they ended up getting a little bit crispy under the overhead heat of the air fryer.
But stick around because I actually refined this recipe and did a second version of it later on in the week with slightly different ingredients, which was amazing. So lunchtime on Friday and it was time for an air fryer special, poached eggs. Have you tried these yet? I use these colourful silicone ramekins a lot in the air fryer.
They’re very easy to clean and although I’m not a fan of silicone liners, these smaller dishes have a good ratio of surface area to volume and so the silicone doesn’t slow down the cooking significantly and they’re great for all sorts of things like puddings. or as I’m using them here for poached eggs.
I put three tablespoons of water in each ramekin and then I added an egg to each. They went in the airfryer on bake at 180 for eight minutes. I checked on them then and then I gave them an extra two minutes and they were perfectly done. To go with them I had some really nice sourdough toasted with smashed avocado and then I popped the eggs on top and topped it with a little bit of sweet chilli sauce.
Supper on Friday was a family favourite of breaded chicken, or in fact, in this case, not breaded, but covered in cornflakes, which is my new favourite way of doing them. I started with blitzing the cornflakes in the fruit processor, flattened the breasts, and then dipped them in flour, egg, and then the cornflake mix.
Previously, we used to to fry these in the pan on the hob, but now we always cook them in the airfryer, which obviously means a lot less oil. They’re really crispy, especially with the cornflakes. Once in the drawer, I gave them a little squirt of olive oil. I can’t remember what setting I cooked them on, but probably 15 minutes.
Bake at 180 is usually a fairly safe option. Along with the chicken, and you may have noticed my glass of wine, we steamed some vegetables to have with them and had some mayonnaise and ketchup on the side. Now my Saturday started with a 10 mile canny cross run, which I did with my golden retriever. It was really muddy.
I’m really hilly, but amazing starting a race with all of those owners and their dogs. Quite a challenging course, but I did manage to finish it. And when I came home, I decided I had definitely earned a decent mid morning snack. So I put a frozen pan o raisin in the air fryer and I made a green smoothie with it.
Lots of goodness, kafi and spinach and banana and dates and all sorts of stuff in to go with it. These pano raisins, interestingly, are supposed to cook for 45 minutes in a normal oven according to the packet instructions. But whenever I cook them in the air fry, it takes me about half the time and they’re still amazing, which is good and bad because we.
Definitely eat more of them since I got an air fryer. For lunch we had Caesar salad, which is a particular favourite of my daughter’s, but really the whole family loves it. First I cooked the back bacon in one drawer of the air fryer on air fry for 205 Celsius for 10 minutes, and then I got the chicken breasts ready by bathing them in olive oil with some herbs and lemon juice.
I popped them in the right hand drawer and checked up on the bacon, giving the slices a bit of a turnover. Then we assembled the rest of the salad. I checked on the chicken, which looked pretty well done, but actually wasn’t. And I think having a temperature probe with an air fryer is absolutely essential.
Forget buying racks and silicone liners and all those kind of exciting accessories. The top one on my list is definitely that temperature probe, particularly when you’re starting out with recipes in an air fryer and you’re not quite sure how long things take to cook. So we chopped up the bacon, checked the temperature of the breasts again, and they were done.
One healthy and very delicious looking Caesar salad, which disappeared completely over lunch. Now, if you think all this talk of 10 mile runs, green smoothies and salads is far too healthy, I want to reassure you a little. Supper on Saturday was homemade chicken burgers. We normally do homemade fries to go with them, but my son wanted to do something a little different this time.
Homemade. Onion rings in the airfryer, of course. These were super easy to do. Big white onions, sliced, coated in flour, eggs and paxo breadcrumbs. There are a few bits of the coating left over at the ends and my son, who is always trying new things in the kitchen, decided to mix the flour, breadcrumbs and eggs into a bowl.
ball and stick it in the airfryer and see what it would be like. I have to say I was not confident it would produce anything edible but the result wasn’t actually too bad and he ate most of it so that saved it going in the bin. And finally, earlier in the day, my son had made some strawberry tarts in our normal oven.
Now they were a little bit sticky and underdone, so we decided to try and crisp them up in the airfryer, which would dry them out a little bit and make them hot again, and it did the job brilliantly. We put them in a bowl, added some icing sugar, which is always a great finishing flourish, and a couple of fresh raspberries, and we had a delicious pudding.
Sunday lunch and some more teamwork in the kitchen. You might notice this is a reoccurring theme in our family. So we started with bagels for lunch and then widened the central hole with a cookie cutter and then you fill that hole with bagels. pretty much anything you want. We did red pepper, cheese and an egg.
Stick it in the drawer, give it a squirt of olive oil as it goes into the airfryer and you can even toast the bits you cut out of the bagel middles by chucking them in the airfryer to cook too. I very rarely use liners and I much prefer the paper ones with the preparations but you can see that I had some free samples which I was sent and my Son chose to use these.
They’re a little bit too big and they kind of ended up wrapping themselves over the top of the bagels. So when we did the second drawer of them, I used the perforated sheets instead and they work much better. Now the chocolate cake I cooked on Thursday is now ancient history. So with some new tins, which had just arrived that day from Amazon, I decided to try making ginger cake.
The recipe for this comes from a really old Sainsbury’s cookbook, which goes back to my childhoods. I think it cost a grand total of 1. 50 when it was originally on sale, but I’ve linked a recipe in the description below, which is very similar from Delicious Magazine. Nice and sticky with a nice, black treacle in it and the ginger isn’t too overpowering either.
I had intended to drizzle icing over the top of these just to make it look nice and add a little bit of sweetness but I discovered too late that we were almost out of icing sugar and so the cakes just got a little token dusting instead. For dinner on Sunday we just needed something quick and filling.
We picked up some sausages from our local farm shop and decided to cook those in the air fryer. on roast 180 Celsius for 15 minutes. Now, normally I would spread these out over two drawers so that they get to see the heating elements, but we decided to see what would happen if we put them all in one, piling them on top of each other a bit and giving them a couple of shakes so everything gets good coverage.
The usual advice is not to overfill air fryer drawers, but in this case, we did manage to get away with it and those sausages were stuffed. served up with mashed potato and baked beans, which sometimes just hits the spots. Monday lunchtime and everybody wanted something slightly different for lunch. I opted for mushrooms on toast.
I tossed them in some olive oil and crushed garlic and put them on the airfryer on airfryer for five minutes. In the meantime, I made a sandwich for my daughter and myself. My son decided that he wanted a toasted ham and cheese sandwich. Now, these are really easy to do in the air fryer. And in fact, we rarely use our George Forman grill for making sandwiches.
Now, I squirted the sandwich with a couple of squirts of olive oil and then give it a couple of minutes on one side before turning it over and giving it a couple of minutes on the other side. For supper, we had salmon fillets. First of all, we did the baked potatoes in the microwave. I. I think we did these four for about 10 minutes, turning them over halfway through, giving a prick with a fork beforehand.
For the salmon, I had managed to accidentally buy two skin on fillets, so my husband’s just a trick he’s seen, where you pour the sauce. boiling water over the raw salmon and then that helps you peel the skin off really easily. I thought we’d just end up kind of poaching the salmon prematurely while we faffed around trying to get the skin off but remarkably it did work and then we put those kind of lightly poached breasts in the air fryer with a third skinless fillet which I had dug out of the freezer.
my husband who isn’t a pet Big fish fan had a couple of cold sausages from last night’s supper to go with those baked potatoes. I used the temperature probe again on the salmon to check it was cooked through. We served the salmon with the potatoes, spinach, coleslaw, sauerkraut, which I love, and a drink flavour of Fever Tree, which is very tasty, which is called Summer Garden.
On Tuesday nights, there was an idea of some sort of surf and turf supper, which my son came up with. And so he was in charge of chicken kebabs, which he really enjoys faffing around with. The Kasori jewel basket comes with a rack and five skewers, so it makes it very easy to do kebabs. And I also have an extra rack amongst my stash, which was bought for the Ninja Jewel Zone, but happens to fit the Kasori too.
This kind of cooking is the classic example of where I said that the airfryer lets two chefs work on opposite sides of the kitchen because while my son was chopping up vegetables and marinating chicken in one spot, my husband was over at the hob cooking garlic prawns and we managed to survive food prep without either of them getting in the way of each other, which does sometimes happen.
And finally, remember the bread and butter pudding, which I showed you I did. earlier in the week with the kind of slightly crispy raisins on the top of it. Well, I came up with my own twist on it which I added a couple of ingredients to and I cooked this in my new tins which fit the drawers perfectly and it was so, so good.
So the recipe for that is in the links below. So there you go, I hope that video was helpful. If it was a like it’s always appreciated. On this channel, I do guides. and reviews of UK appliances. I’m one of the few channels that focuses on the UK market. If you’d like to support that, a subscribe is always appreciated.
I’m on a bit of a mission to hit 10, 000 subs this year. So every single one really does help. Thanks for watching.
